15 Jan 2024: Indian Army Day is celebrated on 15 January every year in India to commemorate the taking over of the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, Lieutenant General Kodandera M. Cariappa, on 15 January 1949.  This day is dedicated to honoring the bravery, selflessness, and steadfast dedication of the Indian Army in preserving the security of the country.

2.  Honoring Soldiers: Indian Army Day is an opportunity to pay homage to the soldiers who have dedicated their lives to the nation and served with distinction.

3. Strengthening Military-Civilian Bond: The celebration of Army Day serves as an event for reinforcing the bond between the military and civilians, showcasing the Indian Army's commitment to serving the nation and its people.

4.  Disaster Relief and Humanitarian Efforts: The Indian Army is not only known for its defense capabilities but also for its efforts in disaster relief and humanitarian assistance during natural calamities.

5.  Celebration and Rituals: The main event of the festivities is a large parade that highlights the might, discipline, and operational preparedness of the Indian Army. The celebration also includes wreath-laying ceremonies at the National War Memorial, where the supreme sacrifice of all personnel who laid down their lives is honored.

In 2024, Indian Army Day will be celebrated in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, instead of the customary locations in Delhi and Bengaluru, to increase citizen participation.
